Maintaining a Healthy Figure: The Secret to Sustaining Shape and Wellness Without the Scale
Actually, I haven’t weighed myself since I came to the Philippines and don’t know my weight. I'm already in my mid-40s and need to consider my figure.
But I think that my figure isn't too bad because of my habit. I'm going to introduce my simple habit for staying in shape and relieving the stress of watching your weight.
A Simple Way to Stay in Shape is to Wear the Same Size Pants You Did When You were Younger
Since I was in my 20’s, I’ve been wearing the same size skinny pants I did when I was younger. If I become fatter, I feel uncomfortable and tight while wearing the pants. That is a sign I need to shape my body or start dietary restrictions.
The skinny pants let us know which part is specifically getting fat. For instance, when my pants hardly zip up, it means my belly gets fatter. I might need to massage my belly or train my abs. That can’t be known in such a specific way from the weight scale. Weight is just a number. I used to learn Brazilian martial arts. I gained muscle all over my body and got heavier but my body was still very slim.
1 kg of muscle has the same volume as 3 kg of fat. It’s three times bigger. So that’s why weight is unreliable to judge whether you're getting fat or not.
Besides, keeping wearing the same pants is simply eco-friendly.
Why Do Girls Mind a Number of Weight Too Much?
Some women, especially the younger generation, tend to mind how much they weigh, even gaining or losing only 1 kg. They nervously weigh every day to know their number of weight. I experienced 2 kg gain with terrible muscle pain after hard training. After a few days, my weight surely returns after recovering from my muscle pain. It’s a scientific phenomenon.
I wonder why women mind our unstable weight, just 1 kg gaining or losing. even though it’s very changeable by body condition. I used to weigh every day when I lived in Japan. I threw away almost all my assets including a weight scale when I decided to move to the Philippines.
I abandoned a habit of stepping on the weight scale every morning then. Moreover, I was relieved of my concern of my weight. Unless you are seriously obese, you don't need to step on the weight scale every day.
Reflecting on your body in the mirror is a more effective way to improve your figure than knowing your weight. The point is, you need to consider your figure more than your weight.
